Péter Nagy Elected IEEE Region 8 Director-Elect in the 2026 IEEE Annual Election
Péter Nagy, a former student of the Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics (TMIT) and current Executive Director of the Scientific Association for Infocommunications (HTE), has been elected IEEE Region 8 Director-Elect, receiving 66.1% of the votes, or 4,079 votes.
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is one of the world's largest international professional organizations dedicated to engineering and technology. IEEE Region 8 (https://ieeer8.org) covers Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (EMEA), representing a professional community of more than 100,000 engineers, researchers, educators, and students.
Péter Nagy will serve as Director-Elect in 2027–2028, followed by a term as Region Director in 2029–2030. In the latter role, he will also become a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, the organization's highest governing body. He will be the first Hungarian to hold this position in the history of IEEE Region 8.
Previously, in 2021–2022, Péter Nagy served as Vice Chair of Technical Activities for the region and contributed to the work of numerous international IEEE committees. In 2023, he received the IEEE MGA Achievement Award, followed in 2025 by the László Kozma Memorial Medal, awarded by TMIT.
Faculty members and researchers at our department are actively involved in IEEE professional communities, conferences, and research activities. We are confident that Péter Nagy's new international leadership role will further strengthen these connections and create new opportunities for collaboration for our faculty, researchers, and students.
